The Metropolitan Society of  Psychoanalytic  Psychotherapists (MSPP) was formerly known as the Professional Association of the Metropolitan Center for Mental Health.  The name was changed in 1980.  The organization is comprised of candidates and graduates of The Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (MITPP), which is affiliated with    the Metropolitan Center for Mental Health (MCMH).  Members also include graduates of other Institutes which offer trainingin Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, and supervisors and faculty at MITPP.

             

The purposes of this organization shall be:

   A. To establish and maintain high professional standards;

B.  To encourage training and research in the field of psychoanalytic psychotherapy  
  and psychoanalysis;

C.  To offer scientific assistance to its members;

D. To provide educational programs in an atmosphere which facilitates ongoing  
   learning;

E. To encourage community interest and education in the field of psychoanalytic 
   psychotherapy,  and to expand the public’s appreciation of its theory
   and  methods.


            

MEMBERSHIP

               Membership is maintained on an annual basis with dues of $75.00 for full members (graduates of MITPP and of other Institutes), $25.00 for associate members (candidates of MITPP), and $35 for affiliate members (those currently taking courses at MITPP but who are not matriculated). Membership entitles one the opportunity to attend the David Wachstock Memorial Clinical Lecture Series,  which offers 3—4 presentations per year on a range of important topics.* Members may also participate in a reading/study group, and/or attend various social functions.  Additionally,  a private practice  referral website is being developed.  If you are not a member, or think your membership has lapsed,  please contact barbarareichenthal@yahoo.com.
(*Dues and MSPP membership are not required to attend the MITPP/MCMH/MSPP sponsored Friday Scientific Meetings.)
